Adding use of a scotch brite pad helps as long as you don't mind scratches, which is not a problem when re-bedding a hatch , port or window. Keep all those solvents away from the Lexan (if that is what the cover is made from), since they will rapidly attack it and cause it to craze. If the cover is Plexiglas, the solvents will attack it but to a somewhat lesser degree - still, be careful.
